Die Kirche wurde sogleich errichtet und <strong>den r\u00f6mischen M\u00e4rtyrern des 4. Jahrhunderts, Johannes und Paulus, gewidmet.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Die Basilika wurde im 14. Jahrhundert von zwei Dominikanerbr\u00fcdern, Benvenuto von Bologna und Nicol\u00f2 von Imola, erweitert. Das Bauwerk wurde 1368 fertiggestellt, aber erst am 14. Die untere Ordnung der Fassade ist durch sechs Nischen gekennzeichnet, in denen sich Grabst\u00e4tten befinden, sowie durch das gro\u00dfe Portal, das mit sechs Marmors\u00e4ulen geschm\u00fcckt ist, <strong>Werk des Bildhauers Bartolomeo Bon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Der mittlere Teil der Fassade, der von drei aufwendig gestalteten Tempelpfeilen gekr\u00f6nt wird, beherbergt die Statuen dreier gro\u00dfer dominikanischer Heiliger: St. Dominikus in der Mitte, St. Peter als M\u00e4rtyrer auf der linken Seite und St. Thomas von Aquin auf der rechten Seite.<\/p>\n<p>Die religi\u00f6se Einrichtung hat einen Grundriss in Form eines lateinischen Kreuzes, mit einem Querschiff und drei Schiffen, die durch riesige zylindrische S\u00e4ulen unterteilt sind. Die Abmessungen der Kirche sind beeindruckend: 101,60 m L\u00e4nge, 45,80 m Breite im Querschiff und 32,20 m H\u00f6he.<\/p>\n<p>An den W\u00e4nden befinden sich zahlreiche Denkm\u00e4ler an den Seitenschiffen, und die Kapellen \u00f6ffnen sich auf der rechten Seite. Im Querschiff gibt es auf jeder Seite zwei Kapellen, die das Presbyterium flankieren. Doch all diese Architektur <strong>w\u00e4re nichts ohne die neuen Kunstwerke, die die W\u00e4nde zieren.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc138090942\"><\/a><strong>Santi Giovanni e Paolo: ein echtes kleines Museum<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Sie wird als das Pantheon Venedigs bezeichnet, da hier seit dem 13. Jahrhundert zahlreiche venezianische Dogen und andere wichtige Pers\u00f6nlichkeiten begraben wurden. Mindestens 150 Grabsteine und 37 monumentale Gr\u00e4ber befinden sich im Inneren, von denen 25 den Dogen Venedigs gewidmet sind.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Die bedeutendsten Denkm\u00e4ler sind die der Dogen Mocenigo<\/strong>Die Kirche ist dem Dogen Michele Morosini gewidmet, der sich im Presbyterium befindet, und dem Dogen Jacopo Tiepolo, dem Gr\u00fcnder der Kirche.<\/p>\n<p>Zu den wichtigsten Kunstwerken der Kirche geh\u00f6ren das wunderbare Polyptychon des Heiligen Vincenzo Ferrer von Giovanni Bellini, die byzantinische Ikone der Madonna della Pace und der Gem\u00e4ldezyklus der Kapelle der Madonna del Rosario von Paolo Veronese.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc138090943\"><\/a><strong>Wie kommen Sie an den Ort des Geschehens?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Die Basilika Santi Giovanni e Paolo befindet sich etwa 2 km vom Bahnhof Santa Lucia entfernt.
