This is the city's original arsenal and shipyard. The district also boasts a number of beautiful parks, where you can dine under the vines.<\/p>\n<p>Once you've had your meal, take a stroll along via Garibaldi, one of the few wide avenues in Venice. There's nothing particularly fantastic here. However, it's a pleasant street, with <strong>stores selling everyday products rather than souvenirs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc135360881\"><\/a><strong>Explore the world of Venice's Greek community<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>East of Castello was home to one of the Greek communities <strong>in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to some sources, this community played a decisive role in the Byzantine architectural style found throughout Venice, and had a major influence on Venetian intellectual life.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the Greeks who moved to Venice came from the Dalmatian coast of Yugoslavia, once a Greek colony. When they arrived, they were given the name Schiavoni. There are many places that bear this name. Perhaps the most famous is <strong>the Riva degli Schiavoni.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The focal point of the Greek community was San Giorgio dei Greci. This XVI\u1d49 century church features superb mosaics and a XIV\u1d49 century Byzantine icon.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc135360882\"><\/a><strong>Castello district in Venice: San Giorgio degli Schiavoni<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Formerly the school of the Dalmatian Greek community, the building contains a series of nine masterpieces by Vittore Carpaccio depicting Saint George, Saint Jerome and Saint Augustine.<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/bonjourvenise.fr\/en\/santa-maria-gloriosa-dei-frari\/\">Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari<\/a>is the second of the <strong>two Franciscan churches in Venice<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It's a beautiful church from the XVI\u1d49 century, in simple Franciscan style. The church houses magnificent works of art by Battista Franco and Francesco Fontebasso.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc135360883\"><\/a><strong>Discover the Tetta Palace<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The word Tetta is in fact the name of a noble family who once lived in this building.<\/p>\n<p>Almost like the prow of a ship cutting through the water, the building is unique in that it is the only establishment in Venice to be surrounded by water on three sides. It's a place <strong>which I recommend you visit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The palace is not far from the Acqua Alta bookshop. For the best view of Palazzo Tetta, head for the Ponte dei Conzafelzi.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc135360884\"><\/a><strong>The Venice Naval Museum<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Close to the Arsenale, this museum should be visited by all those who want to <strong>understand the history of Venice<\/strong>. For Venice as a trading city built on the water, shipbuilding was vital, and this museum offers an interesting insight into the means employed at the time. Admission is only <strong>3 euros<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"_Toc135360885\"><\/a><strong>Venice's Castello district: discover Santi Giovanni and Paolo<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This place is a large church built in the 15\u1d49 century. Very large and very impressive, I advise you to go there and explore the place.
