Parking prices in Venice: article summary
Can you visit Venice by car?
Venice is a car-free city, but yes, it is possible to get to Venice by car. You'll need to leave your car in one of the following parking lots outside the historic city center and explore the city on foot or by boat.
Venice is easily accessible by car from any major city in northern Italy. It's about a 3-hour drive from Milan or 1.5 hours from Verona. If you're coming from the north, you can reach Venice via the A27 or A57 freeways.
Visit Venice's historic city center is located in the Venetian lagoon, and there is only one road connecting it to the mainland. So, no matter where you're driving from, you'll always arrive in Venice. via the 3.5 km-long Ponte della Libertà over the lagoon.
Driving in Venice via the Ponte della Liberta
Once you've crossed the Ponte della Liberta, you have several options for parking your car. If you take the very first exit after the bridge, you'll find yourself on the island of Tronchetto. If you don't turn right, you'll come straight to Piazzale Roma.
Tronchetto Island
The first exit on the right after the bridge takes you to the island of Tronchetto. There are a number of parking lots here. The largest are the Tronchetto from Venice and the Venice passenger terminal parking lot. Don't worry if the parking lot is full, just drive a little further to the next one.
The biggest advantage of parking at Tronchetto is that they have hourly rates for short stays. So, if you're only planning to stay in Venice for 2-3 hours, this is a much cheaper option. However, if you're staying 3 hours or more, you'll pay the same 24-hour rate.
Choose Piazzale Roma parking lot
However, I suggest you drive a little further to Piazzale Roma. This is Venice's main bus station and the only square in Venice accessible by bus or car. Just before the square, you'll see a large white parking lot on your right.
This is the Parcheggio Comunale Venezia, a 10-storey covered parking lot. In my opinion, it's the best parking lot in Venice. You can reserve a space in this parking lot online in advance and travel to Venice without having to worry about where to park.
How much does parking cost in Venice?
As you can imagine, parking in Venice isn't cheap. However, it's very reasonable compared to places like Paris. You'll also be surprised to see that parking rates in Venice haven't changed in years.
Parking in Venice costs approximately €25 to €35 for 24 hours. In most cases, you pay the 24-hour fee, whether you stay for an hour or a day. Some parking lots offer reduced rates in the evening and at night. The exact price depends on the parking lot and sometimes also on the size of your car.
Parking in Mestre costs between €4 and €14 per day. Rates vary widely depending on the parking lot. One of the best parking options is Venice City Park SRL. costs just €5.50 per day and is right next to a bus stop.
From Mestre, you can take a bus, streetcar or train to Venice. You'll arrive at Piazzale Roma or at the train station. The public transport journey from Mestre takes just 10-15 minutes. A bus ticket costs just €1 per person. Streetcar or train tickets cost around €1.50.
Free parking in Venice
Another option, as already mentioned above, is to travel to Venice by the northern coastal road and to parking in Punta Sabbioni. From Punta Sabbioni, you can simply take a boat to the center of the old town.
Parking here is considerably cheaper than in Piazzale Roma. What's more, numerous boat excursions even offer free parking.
Of course, it's not totally free, as you pay for the boat. But the boat drops you right in the center, and you can see Venice from the water on the way. And if you park on Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto Island, you'll probably also take a boat into the city center, in addition to paying 25 to 35 euros for parking.
Venice's parking lots offer very affordable prices. You can leave your car in a guarded area and spend a few minutes in a car park. relax in the old town without worrying about your vehicle.
