The Sea Customs Museum in Venice: a few words
The Sea Customs Museum in Venice is perhaps one of the most beautiful places in the city. Located in a building at the tip of Dorsodoro, it's a place that few tourists avoid. Indeed, once you're done with the city's biggest attractions, you can head here.
Built in the 15th century, it housed the Venetian customs, while the present building was completed in 1682. According to the tales, it was possible to hear the voices of the merchants howling in the tumult of the movement of goods. For centuries, Venice was a maritime republic founded on the trade of goods and spices. This place was at the very heart of this activity.
A strategic location
The location is strategically placed where the two large canals, "Canal Grande"and "Canale della Giudecca", merged. Today, the city is no longer an import hub. Instead, now houses a museum.
Certainly, what remains is the history and beauty of this place. In the evening, when the light fades, the reflection created on the water creates a special atmosphere. Many people sit right on the water's edge, looking out over Saint Mark's and thePalazzo Ducale on the other side of the Canal Grande from a very different angle, worth every minute you spend there.
