Getting to Venice Marco Polo airport by regular bus is very inexpensive. However, water buses offer a fun way to cross the lagoon.

Shared and private boat shuttle services are an even more elegant way to arrive in Venice. If you choose this means of transport, you can take advantage of pre-booked boats that are much cheaper than regular water cab services.

Regular transfers to and from the airport cost around €50 if you choose to take a car. However, your car can only take you as far as Piazzale Roma. You'll then need to add a few euros to get to Venice by boat.

Where to take the boat to Venice?

Public bus transport from Venice Marco Polo airport allows you to take a boat on the lagoon, offering an interesting and romantic experience. Travelers arriving at Venice airport can choose to take inexpensive water buses operated by Alilaguna.

The pier is less than a ten-minute walk from the airport terminal, along a covered walkway to the dock from which all airport boats depart. Luggage carts can be from terminal to quay.

Passengers on water buses, shuttles and water cabs generally have to carry their own luggage ashore. Not all hotels have their own private landing stages. Some water cabs offer a premium service, including assistance with luggage. for a reasonable extra charge.

Choosing the Alilaguna to get to Venice from the airport

The cheapest way to travel by boat from Marco Polo airport to the center of Venice is by Alilaguna vaporetto. Travel time from the airport to San Marco is around 70 minutes.

The Alilaguna vaporetto lines from Marco Polo airport to Venice stop most often at Murano, Lido and San Marco. A one-way ticket on the Alilaguna waterbus costs just €15 for tickets purchased in advance. Tickets purchased on the boat itself are subject to a €1 surcharge.

As the Alilaguna waterbus service is operated by a private company, transport passes are not generally covered.

Take a shuttle to Venice

There are various shuttle boat services from Marco Polo airport to Venetian hotels. It's important to compare fares and conditions. Prices vary considerably, as do the additional services offered.

Shared shuttle transfer services cost around €35 for a one-way trip. However, the services differ in the number of passengers required before the boats depart, as well as in where the boats stop in Venice.

Sometimes, while some routes take you straight to your hotel, others stop at more central points in Venice, forcing you to walk to nearby hotels.

For smaller groups, private boat shuttle services take you directly to the hotel. Rates for private boat shuttle services vary, but are around €200 for a maximum of six people traveling to the center of Venice.

Water cab to Venice from Marco Polo airport

Water cabs are the most expensive way to get from Venice to Marco Polo airport. Water cabs will cost at least €100, and the fare may be higher. A surcharge is added for water cabs ordered by telephone, and the mark-up added by hotel concierges and some travel agents is even higher.

Buses are the best public transport alternative, with one-way fares starting from €10. Pre-booked car transfers from the airport to Piazzale Roma cost around €50. So it's well worth considering for families or small groups.
