Cheap restaurants in Venice
My advice for enjoying one of my favorite cities is to go in winter when there aren't many tourists, stay in the best hotel you can afford (preferably on the Grand Canal) and eat in the cheapest restaurant you can find.
Usually called bacari (bars) or osteria, these establishments are everywhere. However, some of them are much more interesting than others.
L'Al Mercà
This jewel is perfect for a late breakfast or an early lunch after a visit to the market of the Rialto nearby. Here you'll find a small space with a few stools, excellent coffee, grappa and tiny paninis.
Whatever the time of day, I also recommend you try their red wine. Indeed, in this establishment, you only taste local products. The wine also comes from the region. Something to discover new flavors in between city tours.

Several interconnecting rooms, with old-looking walls, filled with locals every night, this family-run restaurant is slightly more formal (and therefore more expensive) than the local bars and osterie. However, it's still a convivial and friendly place.good value for money.

Cheap restaurant in Venice: Al Gatto Nero
Take the ferry across the lagoon to the island of Burano for a memorable meal in this traditional trattoria. Let Max, the man at the helm of "Gatto Nero", guide you through the menu filled with fresh seafood from the lagoon.
The excellent-value antipasti, so hearty that it comes on several plates, is a meal in itself and, depending on the season, contains king scallops in a lightly spiced tomato sauce, tiny black mussels, vongole in olive oil, poached cuttlefish, steamed Mantaise shrimp and small gray shrimp on a grilled square of white polenta. Finally, I recommendavoid leaving without trying their delicious tiramisu.

Although not exactly cheap, a Bellini and a croque-monsieur at the bar are an affordable way to discover this Venetian institution, opened in 1931 by the Cipriani family, declared a national monument by the Italian government. The place is frequented by royalty, artists and celebrities. Finally, it's open on Sundays when many others are closed.
