What better way to start your walking tour than from the banks of the Grand Canal? There are benches where you can sit and take a rest before exploring the streets of Venice. Here you can watch the dance of the gondolas and Vaporetto.

As you stroll through the city's various markets, you're bound to come across Venice's open fruit and vegetable markets. Here, you'll find stalls set up in the middle of the road by fruit vendors. Their carts are usually loaded with fruit, both exotic and local.
Most of these carts belonged to vendors of Asian origin. They had come from far and wide to realize their dreams in the magical city of Venice.
Enjoy the canals and bridges
Venice is a magnificent archipelago, unique in the world. Walk for 5 minutes and you will inevitably arrive on another channel. These are usually dotted with bridges to help locals and tourists cross from one bank to the other. These bridges are for pedestrians only.
During your stay, you are likely to pass through a number of bridges for strolling in Venice. These include the four bridges over the Grand Canal. Of course, I advise you to concentrate on the Rialto bridge which remains one of Venice's most wonderful monuments.
See the pigeons in Piazza San Marco
Once you've seen enough canals and bridges, you can take to the streets and discover the magnificent place Saint-Marc.
Here, the environment is dominated by pigeons. If you have children, they're likely to spend their time chasing Venice's pigeons. The squares are very interesting places. In addition to the many historic buildings, it offers you the choice of opposite directions. You can then discover other places by taking one of the paths along Venice's squares.
Top tips for your walking tour of Venice
If you want to visit Venice on foot, there are a few things you need to bear in mind. On winter evenings, until April or May, it's cool. As night falls, it can get colder and colder. So be careful, wear appropriate clothing.
I also recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes or boots.
Take an umbrella with you, too. In Venice, it can rain at any time. Finally, for a bite to eat, I recommend try the slices of pizza or the portions of pasta and other delicacies from the roadside cafés. They are as economical as they are tasty.
