Boats are the only means of public transport in Venice and to the region's islands. Cars, buses and even bicycles are prohibited in Venice and on many islands, such as Burano.
What's more, from Venice's old town, several larger water buses run hourly to Burano.

The vaporetto lines to Burano
In principle, there is only one major vaporetto line to Buranoline 12. The other two vaporetto lines are rather unimportant for tourists. There are boat connections from the small neighboring island of Torcello early morning to Burano and a night service.
The line 12 route is very simple and stops at the river stations:
- Venice old town
- Murano Island
- Burano Island
- Punta Sabbioni
In Venice, line 12 ferries depart from the north of the old town. This means that vaporetti to Burano do not stop at the main station or the bus station. You have to change at Fondamente Nove or on the island of Murano.
On the island of Murano, the vaporettos on line 12 stop at just one point, Faro stop.
In Burano, ferries stop at the island's only vaporetto pier. Burano is not a large island. You can visit the whole island in 15 minutes.

We've also had to change since Piazzale Roma (bus station, tramway, parking lot, etc.). Here too, just ask the waterbus staff at a Vaporetto information desk for Fondamente Nove.
Piazzale Roma is just 200 metres from Santa Lucia's main railway station. Almost all vaporetti stop at Piazzale Roma and at the station.
