If Venice is not lacking in exceptional monumentsthat will keep you busy during your stay in the Serenissima, I recommend that you take the time to discover the Ca'Rezzonico.
This palace of baroque stylelocated along the Grand CanalIt boasts one of the city's most beautiful facades and houses a fascinating museum. Here's its history and what's inside!
History of Ca'Rezzonico
The construction of the Palazzo Ca'Rezzonico began in 1667 at the request of the Bon family, who commissioned the architect Baldassarre Longhena. Longhena was responsible for several of Venice's most important buildings, including Santa Maria della Salute church or the superb Ca'Pesaro.
Sadly, Baldassarre Longhena died before completion in 1682. The remaining work was too costly for the Bon family, who decided to leave the building as it was.
It's just a 1751 the palace was purchased by a member of the Rezzonico family, who then commissioned the illustrious architect Giorgio Massari to complete the work. The latter completed his work in 1756, just in time for the new Pope Clement XIII - from the Rezzonico family - to take up residence here.
When the family died out in 1810, Ca'Rezzonico passed through the hands of various owners until its purchase by the city of Venice in 1935. The idea is simple: turn it into a museum to relieve pressure on the Correr Museum in Paris. St Mark's squaretoo small. You can admire the well-kept gardenThis is where theatrical performances are sometimes held, after you've taken in the sights and sounds of the façade.
Inside, you'll be amazed by the inner courtyardThis is a vast space, typical of palaces located on the mainland, and therefore extremely rare in Venice. Architect Longhena paid particular attention to the play of light and shadow, to give the whole a sense of grandeur. It's breathtaking when you walk through the first floor.
You'll also see a covered gondolathe Rezzonico family emblem on the fountain in the courtyard, and all you have to do is climb the steps to the top. magnificent monumental staircase to access the museum.
The 18th-century Venetian museum
The 18th-century Venetian museum extends over 3 floors, organized as follows:
- A mezzanine with the collection Ferruccio MestrovichThe exhibition features paintings by Tintoretto and Carpaccio (the inventor of the dish of the same name, and patron of the Harry's Bar)
- The 1er floor consisting of 11 rooms where you can admire paintings, sculptures, frescoes and other 18th-century furniture.
- Au 2e floor, several painting rooms with major works by Canaletto and Tiepolo, as well as a complete room dedicated to to the works of Longhi
- A 3e floor, which houses a antique pharmacy and the vast collection from the Pinacothèque de Egidio Martiniwith Venetian works from the 15th to the 20th century. The exhibition features famous artists as well as some of those discovered by this wealthy donor, who has made it possible to pay them a well-deserved tribute.

How to get to Ca' Rezzonico in Venice?
The Ca'Rezzonico is located at the following address: Dorsoduro, 3136, 30123, Venice
To get there easily, you can :
- Walk from the nearby San Marco district, where most of the Places of interest in Venice
- Borrow a Vaporetto (line 1) and get off at the Ca' Rezzonico
Please note if you're planning to take the vaporetto in Venice, there are a Vaporetto Pass which allows you to take them unlimited and save money

Here's what you need to know to visit Palazzo Ca'Rezzonico with complete peace of mind.
Rates and booking
- Adult ticket: 10 euros
- Reduced rate: 7.50 euros for 7/14 year olds, 15/25 year old students and over 65s
- Free for 0 - 5 year olds
You can book your tickets online or go straight to the ticket office to buy them. If you're planning to visit most of the Venetian museumsyou can opt for Museum Pass that saves you money.
Opening hours
Daily (except Tuesdays) from 10am to 5pm.
Good to know: from October 24, 2022The Museum will be closed to the public for major renovation and restoration work. The reopening date has not yet been set!
Practical information
From audio guides can be rented for 4 euros. If you don't want to miss a thing during your visit and want to hear anecdotes about the place and its works, this is the place to be!
Count on about 1 hour to tour the palace.
