Murano by Vaporetto from Venice
Murano is the most popular island among tourists wishing to visit the sights of Venice. Before the pandemic, tens of thousands of visitors came to the island of Murano every day.

The different Vaporetto lines to Murano
There's not just one way to get to Murano. In fact, there are many Vaporetto can take you there. Let's take a look at the main ones and their features.
Line 3: the fastest line to Murano
Line 3 departs from the Venice bus station (Piazalle Roma). This is the only bus stop on the island of Venice, and all buses from the mainland stop here. A few hundred meters further on, the vaporettos of line 3 stop at Venice's central station, called Santa Lucia.
This Vaporetto takes you directly to Murano. In Murano, the Line 3 ferries stop several times and return to the main station and bus station in Venice. If you want to get off in the center of Murano, get off at the "Museo" landing stage.
However, the stations are within a 10-minute walk of each other. The main advantage of line 3 is its journey time. It takes just 30 minutes to get from Venice to Murano. However, vaporetto line 3 only runs every 20 to 30 minutes and only during the day.
Take advantage of lines 4.1 and 4.2
These lines circumnavigate the island of Venice, with a detour to Murano. The important difference between the lines is that vaporetto 4.1 travels counter-clockwise around Venice, while line 4.2 travels clockwise.
Touring around Venice, the vaporetti of these two lines stop about 20 times. They do not pass through Venice, but only outside the island. Both lines also make a detour via the island of Giudecca.
The disadvantage of these lines is their long journey times: a round trip from the island of Venice with 20 stops and the detour to Murano takes around 2 hours. From the bus and train stations, it's best to take line 3. Vaporetto lines 4.1 and 4.2 operate at least two hours a day. every 20 minutes during the day.
Line 12: the Venice Island Express
Line 12 connects Venice with Murano and then continues to the islands of BuranoMazzorbo and Torcello. Burano and Mazzorbo are linked by a bridge, so you can go to one island and return from the other without the need for transport.
This ferry service runs every 30 minutes. Please note vaporettos line 12 stop in Murano only at the Faro pier.
Travel time by vaporetto from Venice to Murano
From the central station and the Santa Lucia bus station, you must about 25 to 40 minutes. The fastest is line 3.
From the Place Saint-Marc in Murano, you need at least 50 minutes on lines 4.1 and 4.2.
From Burano to Murano, count on about 30 minutes with line 12
Visit Venice from island to island
Many visitors to Venice spend a day island hopping. They then visit the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello, and sometimes Mazzorbo. This can be can be done alone with the water buses of line 12.
From Venice, you can visit the 3 islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello one after the other, and enjoy some time on each island. This is a great day trip for a very low price, offered by some Vaporetto companies.
