Fondation Pinault in Venice: welcome to Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana!
François Pinault is a famous French billionaireowner of the luxury goods group Kering. This art lover began his rich collection in the 70s and now has 3 exhibition sites for his numerous works of modern and contemporary art: the Paris Stock Exchangethe Palazzo Grassi and the Punta della Dogana.
These last two buildings are located in Venice and serve as the headquarters of the Pinault Foundation and as museums, as I present to you!
Introducing Palazzo Grassi
Palazzo Grassi is a neoclassical styleone of the very last palaces to be built in Venice before the fall of the Republic in 1797. François Pinault acquired it in 2005 to turn it into a museum and the Pinault Foundation headquarters in Venice.
Previously, this prestigious building belonged to the Grassi family, ruined after the demise of the Republic of Venice. It passed from hand to hand over the following centuries, including purchases by l'Avvocato Gianni Agnelli (CEO of FIAT), who transforms it into a showroom.
When Pinault acquired it, he entrusted its restructuring to the famous Japanese architect Tadao Andowhose work includes Tokyo's immense Skytree. He will be in charge of the project and will renovate this Palace, as well as the Punta della Dogana and the Bourse du Commerce in Paris.
The largest façade of Palazzo Grassi overlooks the Venice Grand Canal but the more intimate entrance is on the side of the Campo Samuele. From the majestic staircase leading to the upper floors, to the frescoes and superb columns, this place is well worth a visit!
Introduction to Punta della Dogana
The other venue housing works from the Pinault Foundation in Venice is Punta della Doganalocated in the Dorsoduro (Cf > my interactive map of Venice).
This building-turned-museum is located in the old customs house of Venice, hence its name. And just a stone's throw from the impressive Basilica of Santa Maria della Salutewhich I recommend you to visit during your stay !
Since 2009, the Pointe de la Douane welcomes temporary exhibitions works from the Pinault collection.

The two buildings are spaced of 1 km and you can walk from one to the other in less than 15 minutes. For direct access, here's how.
Getting to Palazzo Grassi
Palazzo Grassi is located at the following address: Campo San Samuele, 3231, 30124 Venice
All you need to do is borrow a Vaporetto and get off at Station San Samuele to get there.
Reaching Punta della Dogana
Punta Della Dogana is located at the following address: Dorsoduro, 2, 30123 Venice
The boats is the nearest Salute.
Please note if you're planning to take the vaporetto in Venice, there are a Vaporetto Pass which allows you to take them unlimited and save money!

Here's everything you need to know about visiting the Pinault Foundation in Venice.
Rates and booking
- Adult ticket: 15 euros
- Reduced ticket (students under 25/over 65): 12 euros
- Free for children under 19
- Free on Wednesdays for Venetians and students of Venetian universities
The ticket gives access to at both museums Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana! Tickets are available on site or via the official website.
Opening hours
Palazzo Grassi is open every dayfrom 10am to 7pm, except December 25th.
The same applies to the Punta della Dogana, which is currently under renovation. It will reopen to the public in April 2023.
Practical information
The visit can be quite quick, but it will be done in a quiet atmosphere, which can be pleasant between two visits. visits to monuments very busy.
However, I advise you to check the nature of the exhibitions during your stay. There are so many artists represented in the works of the Pinault Foundation in Venice that it is certain that not all of them will appeal to you!
